Shopify Sidekick

Ask Shopify Sidekick whether your discount codes are working

SegmentIQ adds its discount data to Shopify Sidekick. Ask "Was LOYAL20 worth it?" in your Shopify admin, and Sidekick answers with how much of the code's discount went to customers who had recently paid full price. It works on every plan, and you don't need to open the app.

What Sidekick can't see on its own

Sidekick can already report discount spend and redemptions from your store analytics. What those reports can't tell it is whether a discounted customer had recently paid full price, which is the sign that a discount went to someone who might have bought anyway. SegmentIQ calculates that from your order history and gives the figure to Sidekick when you ask about discounts.

Questions you can ask

You don't have to say "SegmentIQ". Sidekick picks the right source from what you ask. If it answers from Shopify's own reports instead, ask again and start with "Using SegmentIQ".

What the answer includes

You ask aboutSidekick gets from SegmentIQ
One discount codeRedemptions, discount spend, the amount and share that went to recent full-price buyers, the share of redemptions from first-time buyers, the share from orders with no customer, and the method and date range
Your discounts in generalTotal discount spend and the share to recent full-price buyers, plus your top five discount codes and top five customer segments by discount spend

An answer might look like this (illustrative numbers, and Sidekick words its answers its own way):

LOYAL20, last 180 days: 42 redemptions and $610 in discounts.
$390 of that (64%) went to customers who had paid full price
in the previous 180 days. 5% of redemptions were first-time buyers.
Estimate: a discounted order counts when the same customer paid
full price in the previous 180 days.

Every answer includes that method sentence, and SegmentIQ asks Sidekick to present a high share as a sign worth testing, not as proof the discount was wasted. Here's exactly how the figures are calculated.

How to start

  1. Install SegmentIQ from the Shopify App Store and let the first sync finish. Until it does, Sidekick tells you the analysis isn't ready yet.
  2. Open Sidekick from the top of your Shopify admin and ask a discount question.
  3. The first time, Sidekick asks for permission to use SegmentIQ. Choose Yes, or Yes, and don't ask again.

From answer to action

On Pro, the discount report's What to change section suggests specific changes, each with a Copy Sidekick prompt button. For example:

Paste the prompt into Sidekick and it drafts the change in your admin for you to review. SegmentIQ itself stays read-only: its Sidekick tools only read figures, and nothing changes until you save.

Which SegmentIQ plans work with Shopify Sidekick?

Every plan. On the free plan Sidekick's answers cover the last 90 days of orders; on Pro they cover the last 180 days.

Can Sidekick change my store through SegmentIQ?

No. SegmentIQ's Sidekick tools only read figures from SegmentIQ. If you ask Sidekick to change a discount, that's Sidekick working in your admin, and you review the change before saving it.

What does Sidekick receive from SegmentIQ?

Totals per discount code and per customer segment, such as redemptions, discount spend and shares, plus a sentence stating the method and date range. It doesn't receive customer names, emails or individual orders.
